Question from Prof. Diana Laurillard’s keynote session #12

Is it timely to develop teachers on critical and creative thinking skills and dispositions to verify and manage the influx of the kinds of content in social media?

  1. I'd certainly agree that it's valuable to develop teachers' critical and creative thinking skills. I'm not sure that this would relate to 'managing the influx of content in social media'. If, for example, they run a class discussion by using a mix of student questions and displaying student SMS messages at the same time - they could use that technique to encourage questions from shy students and use both types to conduct the class discussion. They may need to be alerted to that idea, and be enabled to do it technically, but does that need creative thinking skills? I think it needs teachers to have means and the disposition to share and exchange these kinds of ideas.
Or did you have something else in mind?
